Red Golden Pheasant Male
The Red Golden Pheasant is a gamebird of the order Galliformes and the family Phasianidae. It is native to forests in mountainous areas of western China.
The adult male is 35-41in in length with the tail accounting for two-thirds of the total length.
The color of the male is a golden crest and rump, bright red body and a
deep orange "cape" that can be spread in display, appearing as an alternating
black and orange fan that covers all of the face except its bright yellow
eye, with a pinpoint black pupil.
The female's breast and sides are barred buff and blackish brown, and the
abdomen is plain buff she also has a buff face and throat.
Both males and females have yellow legs and yellow bills.
The natural habitat is dense dark young conifer forests with sparse undergrowth.
They feed on the ground on grain, berries, grubs, seeds and other types of vegetation, leaves and invertebrates, but roost in trees at night.
Red Golden Pheasant Egg
Golden Pheasants lay 8-12 eggs at a time and will then incubate these for around 22-23 days. Artificial incubation 22 to 23 days at 99.5°F forced air incubator or 101.5 in a still air incubator, measured at the top of the eggs. Relative humidity of 60-65% and 80-85% for the lasty three days, stop turning the eggs on the 20th day.
